The current Lake Nona West directory has two columns. Under Shopping, nearly every name is live, with a phone number and a link to a store page. Under Dining, three names each carry the same two words, "Coming Soon."
That second column is the most useful thing to know about Lake Nona's newest destination right now. The 54-acre center at 5959 Lake Nona Blvd., near Boggy Creek Road and southeast of SR 417, opened this summer. Since then it has worked as a place to pick up groceries, books, wine and sneakers, and every business that has opened so far is retail or fitness. That changes in early November, when Cañonita Lake Nona arrives. Its timing lines up with Lake Nona Town Center switching on its holiday season, which gives the community two different places to spend an evening for the first time.
What's Open Is a Shopping List
Here is what Lake Nona West has opened, in order. By the time Lake Nona's editorial team announced on July 29, 2026 that Lake Nona West is now open, four stores were open:
- Target, the anchor, at nearly 150,000 square feet and in the retailer's newer, larger store format
- Homesense, with full furniture galleries
- Barnes & Noble
- Total Wine & More
Next came Nordstrom Rack. Its grand opening, held Thursday, September 24, 2026, started with an 8 a.m. gift card drawing before the doors opened at 9, according to the Lake Nona Regional Chamber of Commerce calendar. The Chamber held a ribbon cutting for JETSET Pilates, the Miami Beach-founded reformer studio, that same day. DICK'S Sporting Goods and Golf Galaxy, which share a 66,000-square-foot building that includes a Golf Galaxy Performance Center, now post regular hours on their store pages for DICK'S and Golf Galaxy.
Five more tenants on the original roster are still listed as coming soon in the directory, with no public dates posted: Sephora, Drybar, Gloss Nail Co., Just Salad and Kilwins. In its October 3 report on Sephora, WhatNow Orlando said it had not been able to reach a Sephora representative about plans for the store.
The center was designed to give people places to linger between stores. The developer built in shaded promenades, pocket parks, gathering greens and bike and pedestrian connections. Miami-based studio Chalk & Brush is painting 30 original murals across the buildings and walkways. The largest, a "Greetings from Lake Nona West" mural visible from Lake Nona Boulevard, works in The Glass House and Disco the dog.
Three Names in the Dining Column
The three dining tenants are Cañonita, Just Salad and Kilwins. Just Salad is the chain that put carbon labels across its full menu. Kilwins makes its fudge in-store on marble tables. Both are quick stops that fit the errand rhythm the center already has.
Cañonita is the one built for a whole evening. It will be a full-service, 7,700-square-foot contemporary Mexican restaurant, and it marks the brand's Central Florida debut. When WhatNow Orlando covered it in May, the outlet called Cañonita the first restaurant announced for Lake Nona West and put the opening in late 2026.
What Cañonita Is, and What It Isn't
Lake Nona may already know the name from Boxi Park. The FAQ in Lake Nona's opening announcement for Lake Nona West spells out the difference:
"Cañonita Street Taqueria at Boxi Park is a quick-service concept from Tavistock Restaurant Collection. Cañonita Lake Nona will offer the full-service Cañonita experience, with a menu rooted in regional Mexican traditions and artisanal cuisine. Both locations will continue to operate."
The full-service original is in Las Vegas, at The Venetian and The Palazzo on the Grand Canal. Tavistock Restaurant Collection describes it as a scratch-made Mexican kitchen. The Las Vegas menu currently includes Santa Rosa Barbacoa, Mexico City Enchiladas, Carne Asada, Pollo Con Mole Poblano and Cañonita Fajitas. The bar there serves cocktails, margaritas and more than 50 fine-aged and infused tequilas, according to Cañonita's website. The Lake Nona menu and bar list have not been released, so treat the Las Vegas dishes as a preview of the style, not a promise of what Lake Nona will serve.
Lake Nona's save-the-date page describes the restaurant in terms of pace: "fresh Mexican flavors, distinctive tequilas and cocktails, and a place to settle in with your favorite people." Nothing else at Lake Nona West has offered that so far.
Two November Dates Worth Holding
Thursday, November 5. Cañonita still shows as coming soon in the directory, but that same Lake Nona page gives a date of November 5, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., promising "great food, shared stories, and the start of a new neighborhood tradition." The page doesn't call it opening day and doesn't list regular hours. Watch for a final announcement before you plan around it.
Saturday, November 7. Orlando Local Makers is hosting the Cañonita Courtyard Market from 5 to 10 p.m. at 5947 Lake Nona Blvd., billed as a celebration of the restaurant's opening. It's a tables-only outdoor market set on turf and concrete, surrounded by painted murals and the restaurant's outdoor patio.
That second date is the first time the courtyard's design gets used the way it was drawn. The murals, the turf and the patio are all part of a single evening event, and it runs until 10 p.m. Nothing else on the center's calendar so far has kept people there after dark.
Town Center Keeps the Season's Big Nights
Lake Nona West gets its first evening crowd in November, while Lake Nona Town Center's holiday calendar keeps the biggest community nights there. Three weeks after the Cañonita Courtyard Market, a second makers' night takes place across the community:
- Small Business Saturday Market, November 28, 5–10 p.m., at Lake Nona Town Center, with more than 40 local makers, artisans and small businesses.
- Opening Night & Tree Lighting, December 4, 6–10 p.m., at Town Center.
- Oh, What Fun! Holiday Festival, on three weekends at Town Center: December 4–6, 11–13 and 18–20.
- A Very Peppermint Christmas, Fridays and Saturdays, December 4–19, with live performances and nightly snowfall at Town Center.
- Christmas Yappy Hour, December 13, 2–4 p.m., at Crescent Park in Laureate Park. It's public and doesn't require a ticket.
The Wednesday rhythm in Laureate Park continues too. The Farmers Market runs from 5 to 8 p.m. at Laureate Park Village Center, and its remaining 2026 dates are November 4 and 18 and December 2 and 16.
November 4 is a market Wednesday in Laureate Park. November 5 is Cañonita's save-the-date, and November 7 is the courtyard market at Lake Nona West. Then the big nights move to Town Center on November 28 and stay there through December 20. The new courtyard's first evenings arrive in the weeks before the tree lighting.
Getting There Changes in December
If you plan to get to either center without a car, check the bus schedule. LYNX announced on October 20, 2026 that FastLink 407 becomes Link 607 effective December 13. The renumbered route will run less daily service to Lake Nona and shift to Landstar Boulevard, Meadow Woods SunRail and Wetherbee Road. It will drop service on SR 417 and make all local stops between the LYNX Kissimmee Intermodal Station and Orlando International Airport. Maps and schedules were still being finalized when LYNX posted the notice.
Drivers get some relief sooner. The City of Orlando's listing for the Lake Nona Boulevard roadway improvements shows lane shifts and possible street, lane and sidewalk closures between James Bay Drive and Lake Nona Gateway Road through Saturday, October 31, 2026. On foot, the sidewalk detour at Luminary Boulevard and Centerline Drive for the westward extension project is listed through January 11, 2027. The city doesn't expect immediate impacts on general vehicle traffic there.
Lake Nona West also lists a 20-stall Level 3 EV charging hub powered by Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging. The center describes it as a planned addition and hasn't announced an opening date.
At Gavin Hatch and APEX, we follow openings like Cañonita's because new places change how a neighborhood feels day to day, and those details matter when it's time to tell a home's story. If you're in Lake Nona and wondering how this season's new additions show up in your home's value, ask us for a free home valuation. We'll walk you through it over a margarita at the new courtyard.
